Save the Dates:  August 13 - September 3 -- #Stock the Lockers fundraising campaign for school supplies, food and other needs of vulnerable students at SD 68. Campaign kick-off: Thursday, August 13 @ 10 am, Staples, north Nanaimo (Aulds Rd.)

In June, we awarded over $474,000 in scholarships & bursaries to assist 373 Grade 12 grads with the high cost of post-secondary education. Local donors gave over $323,000; the Ministry of Education provided 151 scholarships of $1,000 each.

Coast Capital Insurance employees raise almost $6,000 for NLSF.

Our Stock the Lockers campaign raised $30,000, thanks to our generous donors. We will continue to fundraise throughout the year until we reach our goal of $50,000 for school supplies and other needs of students affected by poverty.

The fifth annual Stock the Lockers campaign is now underway. Help us raise $50,000 for school supplies and other needs of disadvantaged students.

Congratulations to the 372 high school graduates who received more than $460,000 in scholarships, bursaries, awards to pursue post-secondary education, thanks to the financial support of our generous donors.

Giant Garage Sale | Fundraiser nets $5,000.  An enormous 'thank you' to community members who donated items and attended our Giant Garage Sale | Fundraiser that raised $5,000 to benefit programs for school children affected by poverty in School District 68. The Foundation may hold another garage sale in the fall.

Almost 20% of students in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith school district are living in poverty, says Dr. Paul Hasselback, Medical Health Officer for the central Island region, according to a May 10 Nanaimo Daily News article.

Giant Garage Sale | Fundraiser:  The Foundation is holding a giant Garage Sale|Fundraiser to benefit programs for local school children affected by poverty.

Foundation and School District 68 sign Memorandum of Agreement
A formal Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed on January 29. The MOA clarifies the roles of each organizations, and the commitments the organizations make to each other.

Thousands of dollars in scholarships and bursaries available
Grade 12 graduates are encouraged to apply for awards to help with the cost of post-secondary education.  Deadline for Applications:  Friday, February 21.

Mid Island Trucking Association donates $1,000
A big Thank You to the Mid Island Trucking Association
for their generous donation of $1,000 to the Student Support Fund.

Chef Bruce Chandler Memorial Award
A popular high school teacher, who passed away suddenly last July, will be commemorated in the form of a memorial scholarship established by his family and friends through the Foundation. The late Bruce Chandler started the chef training program at John Barsby Secondary School.

Coastal Community Credit Union $6,201 cheque for school supplies
Thank you, Coastal Community Credit Union, and especially all local Donors, for supporting our 2013 Stock the Lockers campaign! Also, thanks to Michael and Nick Hartman, of Hartmann & Company, for delivering lockers to the respective Credit Union branches. Through your generous donations we were able to provide school supplies for students whose families are experiencing economic hardship.

Stock the Lockers raises over $35,000
Thanks to our generous donors, our 2013 fourth annual Stock the Lockers campaign raised just over $35,000 to help elementary and secondary students get prepared for the new school year. In the past four years, our donors have helped raise over $175,000 for school supplies. Thank you for making an investment in local students' future!

Tips for Helping Local Students
For the second year, estheticians and hair technicians at Breze Salon and Day Spa at Country Club Centre helped make going back-to-school a bit brighter for students with a $1,400 donation to the Schools Foundation's Stock the Lockers campaign. Staff contributed five per cent of their tips on services towards a charity fund. On behalf of local students, we thank you for your generosity.
